The distortions of the past two years (COVID, climate change, the war in Ukraine, raw-material scarcity, supply-chain disruptions, high inflation etc.) have led to significant divergences in returns. This is both across, but also within traditional sectors like technology or utilities, reducing their significance and relevance.

At the same time, existing megatrends, such as the transition to net zero or the automation and digitalization of workplaces and homes, have been accelerated.

In this session Christoph Schon, Qontigo’s Senior Principal, argues that investors should, therefore, consider a more targeted approach, focusing on themes like digital security, automation & robotics, or smart city infrastructure.

In addition to alleviating the pains from short-term disruptions (e.g. high inflation, cyber threats), these strategies come with the potential to profit from longer-term structural changes, including the transition to a circular economy based on renewable power generation and sustainable waste management through recycling.
