REIT – the Deutsche Börse real estate indices REITs are real estate businesses with the purpose of purchasing and managing properties. The key feature of REITs is that profits are taxed at unitholder level and not at shareholder level. The lion’s share of the profits that are generated from the real estate business is distributed as dividends. The REIT real estate index family includes an all share index and a selection index based exclusively on Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs), in addition to a comprehensive real estate index. As well as REITs, the latter also includes the largest and most liquid real estate companies in Deutsche Börse’s Prime Standard. Deutsche Börse calculates specific REIT indices in a separate segment for this asset class. This enables investors to easily identify REITs for targeted investment, and a high level of transparency. German REITs can be listed on the EU-regulated market on the General Standard, which is based on the EU minimum requirements, or on the Prime Standard, which imposes the highest transparency requirements in the EU. Deutsche Börse calculates three independent REIT indices: The RX REIT Index contains up to 20 of the largest and most liquid REITs from the Prime Standard. Weighting is undertaken based on free float market capitalization. The RX REIT All Share Index covers all REITs on the Prime Standard and General Standard. The components are weighted purely based on market capitalization. The RX Real Estate Index contains up to 30 REITs and real estate companies from the Prime Standard. The companies included in the index have to generate a minimum daily trading volume of €1 million. All REITs included in the aforementioned indices must be listed in Deutsche Börse's REIT segment. Product providers can create investment products based on these indices, e.g. derivatives and index funds. REITs are included in the equity selection indices, such as the DAX®, MDAX® or the SDAX®, at the same time, provided that they meet the respective inclusion requirements.
